“Tasman district deputy mayor Tim King appears rock steady as a river of anti-dam sentiment flows around him.

“‘I’ve been involved in this for the entire time, from 2000-01 … and I genuinely believe that [the proposed Waimea dam] is the best long-term solution for the region.’

“King said he accepted the project was politically difficult and unpopular ‘in a lot of quarters’.”
