Waimea Water Ltd

Waimea Water Ltd (WWL) is a council-controlled organisation formed in 2018 to oversee the construction, operation, and maintenance of the Waimea Community Dam on behalf of shareholders Tasman District Council (TDC) and Waimea Irrigators Ltd (WIL), representing local water users.  

Board of Directors

The WWL Board is committed to a high standard of corporate governance and regulatory compliance in guiding and monitoring WWL’s activities. The three directors are appointed for a period of four years.

David Wright, Chair

David is a company chair, management consultant and former chief executive. He was appointed chair of WWL in February 2020, having joined the board as a founding director in 2019.

Doug Hattersley, Director

Doug has over 45 years’ engineering and project management experience on large infrastructure projects. He is a founding director of WWL.

Bruno Simpson, Director

Bruno is the CEO and Managing Director of Waimea Group and a director. He is a founding director of WWL.

Key staff

Mike Scott, Chief Executive Officer

Mike has 32 years’ experience in business and project development, strategy, planning, operations and engineering in Australia, Scotland, the United States and New Zealand.

Starting at WWL in early 2019, he oversaw the dam’s construction and its transition to operations.

Dave Ashcroft, Chief Financial Officer

Dave has significant commercial experience across a variety of industry sectors in New Zealand, Australia, the United States and Europe.

He ensures WWL meets the accounting and financial requirements and expectations of the legislation, shareholders, financer and auditor.

Alasdair Mawdsley, Operations Manager

Alasdair has more than a decade’s of environmental management experience on projects around New Zealand.

He was appointed Operations Manager at WWL in 2023 to prepare the organisation for dam operations. He was previously Environment and Sustainability Manager.
